The term “personality” bears various meanings to various people. We often speak about the personality of a person and criticize him/her on the basis of their behaviors without properly understanding the meaning of it. Personality is basically the combination of the characteristics or qualities that form an individual’s distinctive character. A set of qualities that make each person different from the other is termed as personality. But this personality can become problematic sometimes. There are many people in our surroundings who want to be the center of all attraction all the time. It is not normal, because they feel uncomfortable and disturbed if they are not given the full attention all the time. These people are considered to be shallow, self-centered and they can engage in any kind of sexual or seductive and provocative behavior to draw attention to themselves. This kind of people often get bored or frustrated with the same activities of life.
They do not stay faithful with their relationships either. Sometimes, they act out to be the victim or the princess in their relationships and blame the other side rather than themselves. They are ready to do anything to be the center of attraction. Their moralities are often compromised because they give priority to self-satisfaction than being satisfied morally in life. These people are great initiators in terms of doing any kind of work but after a certain amount of time, they lack the interest and importance of completing that particular work. They become enthusiastic to make new friends, contacts and communications than maintaining the existing commitments with the existing people in their lives. Researches have claimed that these behaviors are observed in an individual’s adulthood. Because an individual continuously grows throughout the whole childhood and adolescence. Researchers have termed this disorder as Histrionic Personality Disorder.
People with this disorder tend to be insecure at times which hamper their lives in such ways which are not even understandable by them. The feeling of “I am not good enough”, “I am not smart enough” and “I do not think I can do it” damage their confidence in the most harmful way.
They start avoiding work, school, university or any other place where they need to involve themselves in socializing and interacting with others. They constantly think about what others think about them and become very sensitive while facing any situation.
They often isolate themselves and become lonely or timid. Researchers have termed this to be Avoidant Personality Disorder. The low self-esteem and fear of rejection sometimes make the individual confused about their individualism and sense of morality. Some tend to indulge themselves in isolation due to recurrence of situations where they find themselves to be extremely low confident. In the worst cases, they tend to become suicidal because no urge of staying alive remains in their minds. Others tend to become aggressive and indulge themselves in situations or incidence in which they become histrionic.
We often show our sarcastic side to those who suffer from these personality disorders rather than being helpful towards them. This attitude makes us ignorant and insensitive about the disorders and the harmful effects they can create in an individual’s life.
An individual suffering from these disorders can be immensely helped just by talking to his/her closed and beloved ones. We all know the great saying “Sharing is caring”. These people are usually less confident or uncomfortable to have deep conversations about their problems. Brothers, sisters, parents, friends, partners can play a great role in creating an impact to the individual along with a psychologist or psychiatrist. These disorders can also be treated by taking medications but medications are less effective than psychotherapy. Medications such as- anti depressants and anti-psychotics must be prescribed when depression is associated with these disorders. But psychotherapy and sharing are the most two important factors that can easily help an individual to let go of all the foul feelings that make a “would be perfect” individual “the most hatred persona”.
